Welcome to Walkin' for new Knocker's!
My name is Brittany, and I am the neice of Yvonne (THE SURVIVOR!!!) & daughter of Kim (Yvonne's sister). Together, we are parktaking in the CIBC Run for a Cure on Oct 1, 2017, in Peterborough, ON.
Yvonne's story started just over one year ago, when I got the dreaded phone call of her diagnosis. I rememeber the moment like it was yesterday. I cried & cried, trying to wrap my head around how someone so wonderful was about to endure in the most horrific thing any one person should have to experience. Right before she was to begin her Chemo, she was suggested to cut her hair off as short as she could, as it would be less of a shock when the dreaded chemo would take her gorgeous locks from her. SO, with that happening, the same day, I decided to do one thing that might make her feel better. I cut 6 inches off my hair. Sure I didn't shave my head, or go to the extreme that she was about too, but together with her, I made the promise that we would grow our hair out together, and we've been doing it ever since.
Yvonne was very unforuante, Chemo took a really rough toll on her and her body, she was very sick. Finally the day came for her last day of Chemo, no more needles, no more endless trips back to the hospital sitting there bored out of her mind. It was almost over. She finished Chemo, and her Radiation began 4 weeks after.
I was fortunate enough to be present about her Radiation appointment, along with my mom, Kim. They went over what to expect and the risks, and benefits. We sat & listened and gave our two cents too. She decided she was going to follow thru with the Radiation. They warned her that the only side affect would be minimual "sun burn" like bruns. Well let me tell you something, they were wrong. Her skin was beyond raw. It looked so painful, I couldn't even begin to imagine what she was feeling.
Fast forward to today, September 11th, 2017 SHE IS CANCER FREE!
Yvonne is patiently awaiting her reconstruction surgery that will parktake in the New Year.
I am so beyond proud and honoured of this woman, for everything she has had to go through. Together, Forever, We will find a cure!!!!!
This one is for you Aunta Von xox
Love, Britt & Kim.
